Swedish Massage

Also known as “Traditional" or "Relaxation” massage. Swedish massage uses slow, long, gliding strokes, kneading, friction, compression and vibration stimulating the body’s largest organ, the skin. The benefits of Swedish massage include positive effects on the nervous, muscular, lymphatic and circulatory systems. Other benefits include reduced anxiety and stress relief promoting relaxation and overall health and well being.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage works the deeper layers of muscles and connective tissues. Deep tissue massage stimulates the areas of chronic muscle tension or spasm, opening up the flow of vital oxygen and nutrient enriched blood that is needed for the muscle fibers to release. The increased blood flow also carries away the inflammatory by-products that have been trapped in the muscles. Deep friction helps to prevent adhesions between muscle fibers and connective tissue from new injuries, and to break up adhesions in old injuries or post-operative trauma. Deep tissue massage combined with other modalities such as Positional release and Myofascial release techniques are beneficial for injury rehabilitation, treatment of chronic muscle tension, neck and back pain, muscle strain, ligament sprain, edema, repetitive strain injuries like carpal tunnel and tennis elbow syndrome, whiplash, arthritis and tendonitis.

Sports Massage

Sports Massage is performed on serious and weekend athletes alike. Sports massage has similar attributes as deep tissue massage combining various stretching techniques before, during and after an athletic event.

Young athletes benefit greatly from Sports massage at the beginning of and during a training season when young bodies are pushed through rigorous training rituals after a long period of a more sedentary lifestyle. Massage can greatly reduce muscle soreness and tightness, reducing risk of muscle tears and joint injuries, which could result in permanent injuries to young, developing bodies.

Pre-event massage is performed before a sporting event to prepare the body for peak performance by increasing blood flow to warm the muscles and by taking joints through their range of motion, stimulating synovial fluids in the joints. During the session an athlete gains a deeper awareness of the status of their physical condition, which can then help them to mentally prepare for the event. Knowing their equipment (one's body) is well-maintained gives one a competitive edge. Sports massage can be given during an event to reduce fatigue and relieve swelling, and hasten return to the event.

Post event massage is beneficial to reduce pain, reduce tension, flush waste by-products, prevent scar tissue from forming and reduce recovery time. Other benefits of Sports massage are increased flexibility and injury prevention.

Pregnancy Massage

A Pregnancy Massage can be very beneficial for expectant mothers. It works to relieve tension and aches caused by extra weight and the shift in the body’s center. Pregnancy massage also helps to reduce swelling in extremities, legs feet/hands and soothes the nervous system to reduce fatigue and anxiety. The mother can lay on her stomach with the pelvis supported on special pregnancy supports. The abdomen/baby are supported in a hollowed-out cushion that supports the pelvis and cradles the abdomen with a sling-like effect. The cushion also has hollow areas to protect tender breasts. Pregnancy massage is a wonderful way to connect to the joy of carrying the little life within.

Herbal Ball Massage

This is a traditional treatment from Thailand. An assortment of organic herbs are bundled up in cotton fabric creating a round ball. The herbal balls are placed in a steamer to be warmed. The treatment can be done over clothes or directly on the skin. The warm herbal ball is pressed or rolled along the energy lines in a series of motions to clear any blockages and stimulate blood flow and lymphatic drainage. The heat relaxes sore tired muscles and opens pores to allow for better absorption of the herbs. Two balls are used and are rotated in the steamer to assure a nice warm temperature. The herbs are beneficial for their anti-inflammatory, antiseptic properties and their ability to increase energy flow and simulate blood circulation. They are also valuable for drawing out toxins as well as for their aroma-therapeutic value.

Thai Massage

Thai Massage is sometimes called Yoga Massage. The client remains fully clothed throughout the session. Thai Massage is performed on a mat on the floor; no oils are used. The therapist moves the client through passive yoga poses. A gentle pressure is applied along specific Sen (energy lines and Acupressure points) to stimulate and balance energy flow throughout the body. Pressure is applied using Palm presses, alternating thumb presses and forearm rolls. Using a slow rhythmic motion, the client is brought into meditative state which opens the body to healing.

The benefits of Thai massage include relief from stress, relief of pain and muscle tension, it facilitates relaxation, increases flexibility of muscles and joints, and stimulates the internal organs, inducing an overall feeling of well being.

Hot Stone Massage

In a Hot Stone Massage heated smooth, flat stones are placed on and under key points on the body. Small stones are placed between the toes to open and give a gentle stretch into the feet lower legs. The massage therapist also holds the stones and uses them to massage along the muscles and they can be used to work deeper on some trouble areas. The warmth of the stones penetrates deep in to the muscles creating a deep relaxation in the body followed by the mind and spirit.
